The new planes will be configured with about 400 seats and used on service to Amsterdam, Bangkok, Guangzhou and Dubai. They will also carry over 12 metric tons of cargo. Both jets will be staffed by Kenya Airways crews, who can move from the carrier’s four existing 777-200ERs without additional certifications.

First delivery is scheduled for October 2013, with the second plane slated to join the fleet in May 2014. Kenya’s three 767-300ERs are also leased through GECAS. The Nairobi-based airline, the largest in Kenya, this past April also ordered eight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners which are expected to begin service in the fourth quarter of 2013.
