More wreckage of Air France flight 447 was found in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday, nearly two years after the Airbus A330-200 went missing during a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

Air France-KLM CEO Pierre-Henri Gourgeon said in a statement on Sunday evening that the airline has been informed by French authorities that the wreckage of the Airbus A330 has been located.

“This discovery, coming only days after the Air France and Airbus funded fourth sea search was launched, is good news indeed since it gives hope that information on the causes of the accident, so far unresolved, will be found,” Gourgeon said.

Flight 447 crashed near waypoint TASIL in the Atlantic Ocean on June 1, 2009, killing all 228 people on board. The cause remains unknown and the black box was never found. Sunday’s discovery may revive hopes of finding the black box.

“Answers will perhaps therefore be found to the questions that, since June 1, 2009, families of the victims, our airline and the aviation community worldwide have asked as to how this tragic accident occurred,” Gourgeon added, while extending his thanks to those involved in the recovery operation.
