New York TRACON, the centralized air traffic control center handling most flights in the New York area, has been evacuated after a gas odor filled the building.
All departures have been halted at LaGuardia Airport (LGA), while Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) is reporting departure delays of up to one hour.
The facility in Westbury, New York is responsible for traffic into and out of Kennedy Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP), Teterboro Airport (TEB), Tweed New Haven Regional Airport (HVN), and Republic Airport (FRG). One of the seven “large TRACONs” in the U.S., it is also known as N90.
