Henan Airlines Plasters Photo of Crashed Plane On Homepage

When an airline suffers a serious accident, the usual drill almost universally involves attempting to comfort and aid the victims and their families, while simultaneously attempting to mute the negative affects on future ticket sales.

Posting a photo of one of your planes broken in two and burned to a crisp on your homepage is generally not one of the steps in the airline public relations expert’s damage control plan, but Henan Airlines, which saw 42 of its customers die on Tuesday when one of their Embraers crashed in China, has done exactly that.

At this point it might not matter much because the airline has sacked its president and ceased all operations, but if they do return to the skies, they oughta fire their PR team ASAP.

the chinese in the banner translates into "we are most saddened for the ones who passed away in the plane crash on August 24th".

  • The Media Sucks

Matt Molnar obviously is another ignorant American

The photos were placed there because it's Chinese tradition and culture. It is their way of being apologetic to the families going thru the crisis, and by putting the pictures on the site want to show remembrance of this particular tragedy. It may seem graphic to other cultures, but this is how chinese handle part of their mourning period. Also, by changing it black/white only is another tradition and culture way to show mourning, just like for us westerners when we go to a funeral, we wear black with no bright colors to show respect.

This F'up government and media has ruined the USA

Thank you, The Media Sucks, you are 100% correct and saved me the time of posting a response 🙂 I love how people preach tolerance and then continue to use their own culture as the barometer to judge others.

I agree with The Media Sucks and Jin Zhao/James. Knowing what the banner says and seeing the website for myself really changes my perspective on Henan's handling of this matter. I think Molnar was quite ignorant in his writing of this article. The crash picture was tastefully chosen, much like pictures of Ground Zero in September 11th memorials and memorial websites. Understanding the cultural aspect of this changes my perspective as well. In fact, I think Henan's actions are rather refreshing when compared to western corporate culture. Henan seems to be facing the facts head on, taking responsibility and offering condolences to the families instead of rallying their spin doctors and lawyers to try and hide the facts from investigators and reporters, trying to minimize financial impact and responsibility and pretending nothing happened. Even more surprising to me is that this example of (possible) corporate responsibility (or at least a little bit of decency) has come from China, which is so well known in the past decade for lacing the paint in childrens' toys with lead and finding other ways to cut cost by seriously endangering their customers and workers.

Yes, things look different when you actually learn the facts, instead of trying to write a headline grabbing bullsh*t article based on a single picture and your rampant imagination. What has happened to journalists in the US? I understand how media organizations have lost their devotion to sharing the truth and informing the public to make more money, but how do most of the reporters in an entire country end up losing their ethical compasses and devotion to professionalism?

Like Western Culture is any better? Different does not equal weird. There will always be quirks in any culture. However, should we care about their culture, absolutely! China is now the #2 economy in absolute terms (albeit on a per capita basis it's lower than Mexico) and is set to over take the US in the not so distant future. China is the biggest holder of US debt and a very important trading partner for the US. Regardless of how you view China, whether as a threat, competitive partner, or friend, as the saying goes "know thy enemy".

Hey, what do you expect from a country that encourages local police to put a bullet in the back of the head of the village idiot? Years of Operation Strike Hard and other similar human rights abuses like Tianamen Square massacre and Falun Gong persecution have desensitized most of China's 1.2 billion citizens. Of course, this is communist rule here, not socialism. However, they are doing a fine job gradually bringing China "up" to socialism. Give 'em a chance, they're LEARNING.

In the meantime, Obama is doing a fine job of bringing America "DOWN" to socialism. Hey, give us a chance, we're learning.

New World Order, here we come!

It isn't the first time nor the last that the Media/Reporter distorts the facts. In this case people were educated enough to find out the real truth ,but unfortunately most of these lies spread around as the real truth.
