Just came from the Intrepid's annual Christmas party where we received an update on the shuttle from the museum president. Apparently they have discarded the idea of developing the parking lot across the street as an exhibition center and are simply going to hoist it up on the flight deck and enclose it with a glass structure. It will airlifted to JFK sometime in April and be stored for 6 weeks before being transported by barge to its destination. Museum members will be able to view the shuttle before it opens to the general public . However no mention was made if admission to the shuttle exhibit would be included in the general price or be extra.
A $30 student membership would be a good investment as it would get you discounts on simulator rides and any aircraft tours.
