Re: What type of camera does everyone have?

I have a cheap point and shoot camera. I set the focus to infinity and zoom to maximum and usually get a good shot but by the time the camera recycles, the plane is way gone so I can only get 1 image per aircraft. I should invest in a better camera but since my spotting is limited since 9-11, it really doesn't pay.

Nikon D200, D300 and D700. I mostly use my D300 for avaiation photography with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens + either a 1.4X or 1.7X teleconverter (TC) to give me a little more reach.

+1 for a Nikon D300. 18-200mm VR f3.5 for outdoor use and a Tokina 11-16mm f1.8 for indoor or cockpit shots. I also use my Nikon 800 flash outside on a sunny day.

    D5000, with a 70-300mm VR 4.5-5.6.
I like the D5000 because it comes with the same sensor as the D300 and the D90.

Re: What type of camera does everyone have?

I'm another one of the D200 lovers here. Pair of good old 200s for planes & wildlife, most often with the 300/4 AF-S lens and all three converters -- TC-14, 17 and 20, not all at the same time :) The 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D is a regular too, best zoom I've ever used and optically equal to the 70-200 VR.

For shooting inside airplanes, I love the Nikon 10-24. My new wide-angle love after the Sigma 10-20, which was a sweet lens but often showed awful fringing.

In low light (i.e. concerts) I switch to a D700, most often with the oldie but definitely goldie pump-action 35-70 2.8D, but I haven't used it for aviation yet.

The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".
