Looks like a NASA T-38 came in to JFK this morning to case the joint: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/NASA966
They took a section of the leading edge off as part of the Columbia investigation, but I don't think that was the piece that they did the actual tests on, I think it was more to examine the structure of the LE, and then it was returned. I saw something the other night where they showed some of the testing, firing a piece of foam into a section of the wing, and it looked ugly...
One word...Grimaldi's.
I'll keep that in mind for next visit. The funny thing is, with all the 'great' eating places they say are in New York, I don't remember a whole lot about the food the couple times I went. I remember a BBQ place on the first night, I remember a corner sub shop and taking the food across the street to eat in Central Park, and I remember a place near the hotel that, for the prices and dress code, had really, really subpar food and service.
Lee Goldberg on Eyewitness News weather just predicted wind gusts up to 30 mph for Friday morning. He said this could cause another delay for our shuttle. This is frustrating!
NYC has the average % of crappy & sub-par places... but when you multiply that % by the massive number of eateries, it means there are A LOT of crappy places you can try. You are especially more likely to get crap when you're eating in the vicinity of an attraction, the good places aren't usually super-close to the touristy sites, but a couple blocks away.
They should have postponed it for the weekend to begin with. Idiots.........
After beating my brains for the last 48 hours...
1) At this point, I kind of hope they push it back to next week sometime.
2) Thinking I may try to do the same thing Chris, Fred, & I did for Red Bull. Head over to Ellis Island & get her flying up & down the Hudson with the city in the background. I just have a feeling it's going to be a madhouse around the airport & think the cops/security are going to be less than understanding...
Tomorrow's looking windy:

Yeah, at this point they might as well wait for the perfect weather forecasted for Monday:cool:
I hope not! My wife has arranged alternate transportation to work tomorrow so that I can have the car! Is the shuttle still piggybacking the jet, and is it visible from any non-personnel areas?
I remember reading somewhere and now I cannot find it on what the highest wind speed they will fly with, does anyone have access to that? With sustained winds forecast in the low-mid 20 kts range for Friday morning this may or may not be the deal breaker.
According to NASA as of 18 mins ago, Enterprise is "officially" set to arrive Friday.
do we know which flight path they would pick then? I know there was a map a few pages ago, but not sure which would be applicable. I hope I can catch a good view from over by the Cradle...any thoughts on this?
Seems like tomorrow is going to be the day. NASA just put out a media advisory about it.
Quote:
MEDIA ADVISORY: M12-077
SHUTTLE ENTERPRISE TO FLY OVER NEW YORK CITY METRO AREA FRIDAY
WASHINGTON -- NASA managers, in consultation with Intrepid Sea, Air
and Space Museum officials, have selected Friday, April 27, to ferry
space shuttle Enterprise from Washington Dulles International Airport
to John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York.
NASA's 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) with Enterprise mounted atop
will fly at a relatively low altitude over various parts of the New
York City metropolitan area on Friday. The aircraft is expected to
fly near a variety of landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and
Intrepid. After the flyover is complete, the SCA will land at JFK.
The Federal Aviation Administration is coordinating the flight, which
is scheduled to occur between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. EDT. The timing and
exact route depend on weather and operational constraints. If the
flight is postponed for any reason, a notice will be issued.

Well.........I'm planning to be out early!!! Batteries a getting charged, sensors and lenses getting cleaned.
Just received this high wind advisory for LGA for Friday issued by the Port Authority, seems somewhat worse than other sources are showing.
WINDS EXPECTED Friday 4/27 1AM - Saturday 4/28 2AM.WINDS FROM THE NW @ 15-30MPH AND HIGHEST GUSTS @ 40-45MPH THRU 10AM THEN 35-40MPH
Wunderground is still showing 22mph winds at JFK.
is anyone trying to stay local and catch a glimpse anywhere other than near the city?
I think I will be at Inwood.
I will be there where Jason is ;) Skipping school for it tomorrow no way to miss it!
Closest "spot" for pictures (subject-distance wise) will be Inwood Park but unfortunately, no tower shots from there :-(
