Great shots guys!!!
Thank you for the nice comments and its great to hear that you all had a good time. This was the first time we set this up and we will be sure to do it again. There are a lot of us who volunteer at Bayport who want to turn it into a great vintage museum. The current BAS President John Hess has a lot of great ideas to attract visitors and make it a great welcoming destination. But at times its an uphill battle as many of the 'old guard' are content with just leaving it as its been, as just a place for them to hang out in their hangars and fly occasionaly. Then there are many of us who want to see all the residents on board and make it more of a museum with activities and tours. One of our next new events is the pancake breakfast in May. We hope to start construction of a new hangar soon.
There are four groups at Bayport, the BAS, the AACGNY, LIEF and now the Antique and Classic Aircraft Ent. Inc who sponsored the party and includes the Yak-52, Yak-18, Yak-12 and PO-2 (storage-long term project).
Fred Schmuckler helped us out by treating you to a fly-by with his beautiful Waco. Also I see Derf got shots of Gene's L-2B. This Taylorcraft L-2 is the latest restoration to fly from Bayport. Gene is a WWII veteran who frequently saw them land at the front lines and has taken at least 5 years to painstakenly restore this bird. These shots are the first that I've seen it fly.
I'll keep you guys posted on any more activities at Bayport!
Cheers,
Peter
