Trip to New Orleans - May 2012
My wife was in CDG all week for work, so I decided to take a trip back home to New Orleans and spend the week at my parents' house. Here are my favorite shots from this week.
San Francisco Plantation - Garyville, LA

The Garyville Timbermill Museum - Garyville, LA: This abandoned museum is turn of the 20th century. It's about a half mile from my folks' house.

River Road - It follows the levee that protects the areas from the river. There are hundreds of curves along its path such as this.

Sugar cane field - A staple in rural areas surrounding the New Orleans metro area.

The Spillway. This area fills up with water when the Mississippi River reaches a certain point to prevent flooding. The skyline in Norco, LA is much like Deer Park. Not every city has all pretty views.

This may be one of my favorite photos. This train carrying tons of explosive, corrosive, and other acid chemicals to the Shell Oil refinery in the distance; which is burning some nasty stuff. We call this the "northern lights" or Norco.

The road to cancer starts here. A long time ago, a good friend of mine (whose a boy genius) met with President Bill Clinton to discuss the cancer rates in Norco, LA compared to other areas around New Orleans that don't have all the refineries.

Louisiana Alligators - I took a swamp tour one day; however, all the gators were small. So, my friend and I took his boat into the bayous and he was feeding them chicken so I could get a close shot of one.

My Parents' house! Okay, not really. This is a trap shack. Folks will hang out here while hunting and trapping crabs. I love the out house.

The dome and the Hornets' arena taken from the roof of the Hyatt hotel across the street. I know a front desk manager who hooked me up with this shot.

Taken from the free ferry to Algiers, the New Orleans skyline:

The Crescent City Connection bridges and the skyline at sunset. Taken from the Prery St. Wharf in Algiers. FYI-not a place you should venture out to by yourself. I had two armed escorts with me. This place is known for its high crime rates.

Downtown from across the Mississippi River. The storms in the area made for some interesting purples in the sky after a long exposure.

Finally, my favorite shot of my entire trip. I found a hole in the fence by the Perry St. Wharf. Behind the fence was a set of abandoned set of tracks which went out across the river. This is the view it offered!
