I'm impatient! Everyone think it will be Wednesday?
Waiting on official word from NASA!
I have the ferry flight status page open:
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/ferry/status.html
And even though it says Text updates will appear automatically; there is no need to reload the page. I keep hitting refresh every 2 minutes...
Does anyone know if this flight plan is true to what will happen? I'm most interested in the approach from North to South before lining up with Rwy 31L.
If this happens the route will fly directly over Nassau Colliseum and my office! I will have a front row seat from RXR Plaza!
So sayeth Spaceflight NowQuote:
If the weather cooperates as forecasters expect, the space shuttle Enterprise will take her piggyback ferryflight ride from Dulles International Airport outside the nation's capital to the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on Wednesday morning.
So......it looks like we're still in the dark until tomorrow morning when they look at the forecast again...
You will have a nice view the only thing that can foul you up is the smoke plumes that come out of the COVANTA incinerator. They are located right next door to Nick Falzone and the crew at N90.
I'm thinking about planting myself somewhere near the Eisenhower Park Special Activities Building or the parking lot across the street as I have been shut out at KJFK.
On nasa's website...wx permitting its Wednesday!
Word on the street is the Wednesday is now official...
Intrepid just confirmed that the ceremony will indeed take place Wednesday....
Wednesday still tentative. NASA will hold another weather briefing tomorrow morning.
No rain or wind problems currently expected Wednesday, but mostly cloudy to overcast conditions could mess things up if the clouds get too low.Quote:
WASHINGTON --NASA managers, in coordination with Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum officials, tentatively selected Wednesday, April 25 as the date to ferry space shuttle Enterprise from Washington’s Dulles International Airport to New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The decision was made at the conclusion of the Enterprise Ferry Flight Readiness Review (FRR) and is dependent on the outcome of a weather briefing Tuesday morning.
A large region of low pressure dominating the east coast has made it difficult to reliably predict an acceptable day for the flight.
I just wish they'd tell me which runway they will use at Dulles so that I can get set up to watch her leave :)
shucks...if it's wednesday or thursday i'm toast =(
Got this pic from my sister-in-law today. Her boss's daughter friend took this while she was taxiing around Dulles this morning.

Hello,
So, if the North proposal/plan would happen, is it true that JFK would only get the landing, no fly by? In the first post with the plan it mentions JFK getting both flyby and landing no matter what, is that not happening now?
Thanks
Great image gpalz for your sister-in-law.
So is 31L set in stone? If the sun happens to be out the lighting will not be good in that case, nearly directly tail-on between 10 and 11. 22L lighting would be MUCH better that time of day. Perhaps some good cloud cover would be of benefit if they use the 31s.
I'm not liking the current forecast for Wednesday. Around 11am looks like 20% chance of precip with 14MPH winds from the west with 76% cloud cover.
I also saw the forecast. for Wed. and it's not good. Besides the 20% chance of rain, I'm also concerned about the cloud cover and the gusty WSW winds shifting to the NW. Hope we don't have to endure
another delay . The Thurs. forecast is not much better. Fri. looks OK. Strange, because until last week, NYC had vivid blue skies everyday. How will we know if there's another delay tomorrow?
What is the purpose if there's a JFK fly-by? Is it to check wind and ceiling conditions? On 1 map, it shows 2 fly-bys over the Statue, when she flies north over the Hudson and then after returning before turning west to EWR. Now, they expect a weather problem on Thurs. morning, Remember all the vivid blue skies we had last week and warm temps? Now we pay the price!
My guess is Friday, forecast looks very very good.
Not liking the KJFK TAF:

Jlaico,
This is awesome news. I take it that 'N90' refers to the NY Tracon over by Stewart Ave? I work in the west tower of RXR Plaza on the 8th floor, which gives me sweeping views of NYC skyline and the Colisseum parking lot. IF they cut inside of the incinerator and aim for the colisseum to head south for the 31L final, then I will have a front row seat. IF the stay right over the Tracon and the park I'll have to walk over to the north side of the office for the head on view till it disappears over the roof.
If there is an approx time then I can run outside. I wonder if the folks at the Cradle museum know this is going down right over their heads!
Seeing tweets that it's gonna be Friday but nothing from NASA. Can anybody advise?
No update on the Ferry Flight page: http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/ferry/status.html
They are going to close the airspace while the SCA is in the area - another few minutes (OK, 10 or 15 minutes) won't be the end of the world. If they ask for a couple extra flybys, I don't thing the tower will say no.
"Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full..."
Yesterday CBS 880AM Radio had a nice short interview with a retired Commander from the 747 SCA and he seemed very much still in touch with this project and he made it sound like the number 1 priority was protecting the Enterprise from rain and winds during the ferry flight so they would hold out for very good forecasted weather not borderline with their limits to assure the Shuttle arrives damage free. This seemed much more important than the date on the calender, I still say Friday tentative my 2 cents. LGA777
Friday seems to be the best date but spring weather is very unpredictable. Keep fingers crossed. Safety first!
WEDNESDAY has been cancelled.
Huge news.
Intrepid is now clearing the entire deck of its inventory to make room. The original mission has been scrubbed. Instead, the 747Shuttle piggyback pair will fly to NY.
Very exiciting new development! As we speak, the shuttle is being retrofitted with a hook for a deck landing on the Intrepid.
Then somewhere over the Hudson, the Orbiter will be air launched from the 747 and glided onto the deck and caught by the decades old barely functional arrestor cables. (In the event it skids past, real estate developers are keeping a keen eye on some new potential ground breaking right across the street from the carrier.)
We now return to your regularly random banter.
Mario do you have a source?
