Over at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE), which is taking place in Switzerland, Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) is displaying a BBJ 3 for the very first time.

The aircraft, based on the Boeing 737-900ER, was outfitted with custom VIP interiors at Jet Aviation in Basel, Switzerland and the end result is pretty special.

The BBJ 3 is currently for sale, so the exterior remains "green" or unpainted, ready for a livery to be selected by a new owner.

Not sure how many of you have flickr accounts but they just pushed through a major change that there are a lot of complaints about. I myself have already submitted a complaint about this, given that I have paid for a pro account. The new 'look' is terrible, I can't even see my own photos. There is already a wave of opposition to the new look.

The last I checked, no one was complaining about the look of Flickr. This change has made it so bad, that I seriously will be asking for a refund if it doesn't get changed back. If I have to do that, I guess I will finally get my own website up and running.

Has anyone ever heard of NetJets having a no-photography corporate policy?

I've shot tons of their aircraft in the past without any problems, but when I attempted to get a Global 5000 recently, the pilot told me that they have a corporate policy prohibiting any photography of their aircraft. I didn't challenge him on this of course, but I'm wondering if there is such a policy in place. I'm also wondering if this had something to do with it being a Signature Series aircraft.

Anyone here in-the-know about NetJets' policies?

Had a great weekend photographing for Historic Flight Foundation at Paine Field's annual Aviation Day. While I've been extremely blessed/lucky to receive a lot of unreal opportunities from them over the years I got an especially sweet treat: a go at their Spitfire for a little air to air. It was a last minute substitution that I didn't even know about until I saw pulling into formation...I was thrilled:

Fun fact about the woman in the top right photo - she was a flight attendant for Air California, Hughes Airwest, Republic, and Northwest. She docented the museums DC3 through the day in full uniform and had all of her original flight badges to boot. It was sooo cool to chat with her.

After getting a little sleep today, I headed out for something to do, and ended up at Gravelly Point Park, next to DCA for a while this afternoon. They were landing Rwy 19, so the approach was directly over the park.

At one point, movements stopped, and off in the distance I saw that familiar three-ship formation of white-topped Marine helicopters. Unfortunately, the long lens was in the car (100-400mm is overkill at Gravelly Point) so again I didn't get very good shots of them...
A Washington Metro Police boat pulled in the channel between the park and the airport, heading over to the boat ramp. There were a couple of kids in the front of the boat, and they were towing a small, capsized boat. They were followed by a DC FD River Rescue boat. Police and FD rescue units showed up to meet them. Looks like the PD and FD pulled the kids out of the river. Based on the lack of urgency, I assume they were fine.

Heading up to NY this weekend, I had hopes of getting in town early enough to make the WWII Reenactment at Old Bethpage, but it was a long week, and 7 hours of driving in the rain meant stopping in Washington, DC for the night. That let me do a little shooting in the evening, and then I did something I've been wanting to do for a while - head out overnight (when the crowds were gone) to shoot some of the monuments.

These were from my first foray...

Vietnam War Memorial

I always see photos (my own included) taken from straight on of the Lincoln Memorial, but I stumbled upon this view and really liked it.

Albert Einstein at the National Academy of Sciences. And yes, I saw people sit on his lap for photos.

As many times as I've wandered around the Lincoln Memorial, I never went around this side of it, but what a shot!

After a late dinner, and time to process the above shots, it was a little after 1am, and I headed back out.

3am, hanging with Mr. Lincoln. And yes, even then, I had to wait for people to get out of the shot...

The WWII Memorial

The Smithsonian

It was drizzling on and off all night, and then the fog really rolled in.

Finally called it quits around 5:30am, when it was clear we wouldn't get much of a sunrise. Breakfast at Mickey D's and some more processing, and I finally got to bed at 8am, 24 hours after I got up Saturday.
