During a snowstorm, a Polar Air Cargo 747-200 went off the end of runway 4R at JFK Airport. Flight 8407 arrived from Anchorage (ANC) and the icy conditions caused the aircraft to be halted by the runway's Engineered Materials Arrestor System (EMAS). The crew of 3 was uninjured, and the aircraft, N921FT (cn 21575/358), was still stuck in the snow and being shovelled out by hand the next day. This aircraft was the third to be "arrested" by the EMAS at the airport along with a Gemini MD-11 last year and a Saab 340 that was caught in May 1999.
