1980 – Aeroflot introduces the Ilyushin Il-86, flying it on their Moscow-Tashkent route.
1975 - The Tupolev Tu-144 begins operations, flying mail and freight between Moscow and Alma-Ata prior to passenger ops that would begin in November of 1977.
1948 – I.V. Federov, flying a Lavochkin La-176 becomes the first Russian to break the sound barrier.
