2008 – Yvez Rossy becomes first person to cross the English Channel strapped to a jetpack.
1997 – Garuda Indonesia Flight 152, an Airbus A300 (PK-GAI) crashes into trees on approach to Medan, Indonesia, killing all 234 passengers and crew. The tragedy is blamed on the pilots failing to follow the instructions of air traffic controllers, turning left instead of right and descending below the minimum assigned altitude.
1983 – Cosmonauts Titov and Strekalov are saved from exploding Soyuz T-10.
1973 – The Concorde makes its first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic in record-breaking time, though the record would go on to be broken a few more times until the aircraft’s retirement in 2003.
1967 – The governments of France, West Germany, and Britain sign a memorandum for the development of the Airbus A300, which would later launch in 1972 as the world’s first twin-engine widebody.
